'Signs and Wonders' book review - Pentecostals in the UCC?
Posted by: Gregg on May 15, 2009 at 9:43AM EST

I had a great time reviewing the book "Signs and Wonders: Why Pentecostalism is the World's Fastest Growing Faith" and interviewing its author, Paul Alexander.

I mentioned a growing Pentecostal movement within the UCC - namely The Fellowship.

I'm curios to find out if anyone knows of other UCC churches or movements who would self-identify as Pentecostal or Charismatic?

Alexander is the founder of Pentecostals and Charismatics for Peace and Justice - a group that is quite aligned with the justice concerns of the national setting of the UCC. Simply fascinating.

I welcome your thoughts and comments...

Nicely done Gregg!
I'm glad you gave this one the time it desreves & I pray others read your review & pick-up the book (or, at the least, begin to more compassionately engage the people & issues addressed in Alexanders' text).
I am often troubled by the dearth of demonstrative expressions of The Spirit in our churches (whether in the administration/application of the gifts or in simple acts of justice).
Anyway, thanks again for this one & I pray the new gig is going well for you...like the new direction(s) you're going in.
Peace & Blessings, brother!

Gregg - good review. I was wondering if you would like to review the book "Thoughts and Heresies"? It has cause some excitement here in Va. where I live and almost cost me my job. Rev. Drew Morris, ACM for the Eastern Va. Association said that I wrote what a lot of clergy feel but do not say for fear of losing their jobs. I would be happy to send you a copy if you would like to see it and write a review. the Eastern VA. Association has a write up on it on their wed site - eva-soc-ucc.org under bulletin board. It is published by Infinity Publishing and excerpts are posted. Let me know - danwickert@yahoo. com.
